"Details, Details.. I cannot make bricks without clay"
-- R D Jr Sherlock Holmes
Without the supplies. All you have is the knowledge. So for this post I will give a suggested shopping list of what you need to start your doll making dreams
Now I am fully aware that not everyone has money for being a doll maker dreamer. But don't worry darlings. I will get to that later
For now...
Let's Begin!!
The first thing you are going to need is a idea of what you want your doll to look like. Templates and ideas are important here so make sure you have that before anything else. Can't draw? No worries there!
Simply Google image search it and you will find plenty of suggestions.
Like so below v--v
It was found on Google
Please note that I don't own the image and claim no rights to it.
After you have the template ready. You are now ready to start collecting your supplies.
First thing you are going to need is your clay for making the doll.
If you looked at my intro post I gave an idea of what to use. While there are a few differences to how the doll is made depending on the type of clay you use. Both will end up the same as a lovely dream come true.
For those who have to stay on the cheap I suggest the Das Paper clay. It is the cheapest of the 3. Or you can look up a cold porcelain recipe. It's a air dry clay which consists of Elmers glue all, corn starch, vinegar and lotion. A cheap pot or microwavable bowl is also suggested. Also cling wrap
Now this stuff dries really well but like actual porcelain it will shrink while so there can be no gaps or else it will crack all over. I only suggest this stuff as a last resort but do know you can make a doll with it.
Now to move on to the more technical parts of the supplies
Wire 18 to 16 gauge is best
Elastic for stringing the doll together
Styrofoam (for those who don't mind a mess)
Foil (for both the cheap and less of a mess way)
Straws (they have multiple uses)
Eyes --- These can either be bought online, at a store if your lucky or made if you want to get creative.
